A MOMENT OF HONESTY

Does any of this sound familiar?

If you’ve led for any length of time, at least one of these will land. They’re the moments most leaders carry alone – because nobody gives you a system to navigate them.

1. The Snap

You walked into the meeting clear-headed. You had a plan. Twenty minutes in, someone challenged your decision in front of senior leadership and you heard yourself say something sharper than you intended. You watched the room go quiet. You spent the rest of the day wondering how much that moment cost you – and whether you’ll do it again next time.

She asked for the meeting on a Tuesday. By Wednesday she’d handed in her notice. You replay the last six months in your head – the missed one-on-one, the tone you took in the project review, the email you fired off when you were stressed – and you wonder which moment was the one that lost her. Nobody tells you. They never do.

Your engagement scores keep telling you the same thing, with different words each time. “Approachable” but only when things are calm. “Supportive” but only when there’s no pressure. You’ve read the books. You’ve taken the courses. And yet under deadline, under stress, under scrutiny – you can feel yourself becoming someone you don’t recognise.

You hit send before you should have. You knew it as you typed it. The reply came the next morning – polite, professional, careful. Too careful. The kind of careful that means trust just took a hit, and you’re not sure how many more hits before something breaks.

There’s a conversation you’ve been putting off for three weeks. You know what needs to be said. You know who needs to hear it. Every day you don’t have it, the cost compounds but every day, something else feels more urgent. You’ll have it tomorrow. You said that yesterday too.

A colleague gave you feedback last quarter. You took it well in the moment. Then, walking to your car, it landed differently. Because it wasn’t a critique of your skill or your strategy. It was a description of how you make people feel when the pressure rises. And you didn’t know what to do with that – because nobody had ever given you a system to change it.

If any of these landed — keep reading. This is exactly the gap the System addresses.

THE problem

Your team doesn't experience your intention. They experience your behaviour.

Every leader has an Intention-Impact Gap. Under normal conditions, your intentions and impact roughly align. Under pressure, they diverge – often dramatically. The leader who intends to be supportive becomes controlling. The leader who intends to be decisive becomes autocratic. And nobody – including the leader – even notices the gap until the damage is already done.

THE SYSTEM

Most leadership programs teach you what to think. The Shiftcode™ Behavioural Navigation System teaches you what to do – in the meeting, in the difficult conversation, in the moment when the pressure is on.

About Preetie

I built this because I needed it.

I’m Preetie Boler – a Behavioural Risk Strategist based in Perth, Western Australia. I’ve spent 30 years in corporate leadership across mining, construction, resources, and professional services. I built the Shiftcode™ framework because I watched too many leaders with brilliant intentions create devastating impact and I was one of them.

Early in my career I watched a leader I deeply respected shut down a team member in front of others. His intention was urgency. The person on the receiving end experienced humiliation. She went quiet for weeks. She eventually left. He never knew. He walked out of that meeting thinking he’d been decisive. She walked out thinking she didn’t matter.

That moment never left me. Because I had been on both sides of that gap – as the leader and as the person on the receiving end. And I realised that nobody – not the books, not the courses, not the executive coaches – was giving leaders a system to navigate the moment when intention and impact diverge under pressure.

So, I built one. And then I wrote the book on it. This System is the same diagnostic, navigation, and shift framework I use in my $5,500 mentorship engagements. Now self-guided. Now accessible. Now in your hands.
